OUR SERVICES

Comprehensive Examinations

Routine check-ups

You may assume you should have a dental check-up every six months, but some people may not need to go so often and others may need more frequent checks. Your dentist will suggest when you should have your next check-up based on how good your oral health is. The time between check-ups can vary from three months to two years depending on how healthy your teeth and gums are and your risk of future problems.

Why do I need a dental check-up?

A check-up allows your dentist to see if you have any dental problems and helps you keep your mouth healthy. Leaving problems untreated could make them more difficult to treat in the future, so it’s best to deal with problems early, or, if possible, prevent them altogether.

What happens during a dental check-up?

At each check-up, your dentist should:

  • Examine your teeth, gums and mouth

  • Take Dental Radiographs and Photographs

  • Ask about your general health and any problems you’ve had with your teeth, mouth or gums since your last visit

  • Ask about, and give you advice on, your diet, smoking and alcohol use, and teeth-cleaning habits

  • Provide you with a cost estimate for any further treatment that you require

  • Discuss with you a date for your next visit

Composite Fillings & Bonding

Composite fillings (often referred to as Composite Bonding) are made from a white composite or resin material. This is a soft material that can be shaped into the cavity and hardened with a special light, which hardens it.

Composite tooth-colored fillings, provide excellent durability and resistance to fracturing in small-to-mid-size fillings that need to withstand moderate pressure from the constant stress of chewing.

They can be used on either front or back teeth and are a good choice for people who prefer a more natural look to their fillings. Composite bonding is also a cost effective treatment to enhance the appearance of chipped and discoloured teeth.

Composite fillings have numerous advantages:

They are bonded to the tooth. This process ensures maximum retention and seals off the teeth on the margin where the filling is placed. The bonding techniques and materials have evolved incredibly in the past decade. The correct bonding process will result in a durable, natural looking filling with little to no post-operative sensitivity.

Crowns, Bridges & Veneers

Ceramic crowns, Inlays and onlays/overlays are an excellent way to help solve a problem caused by moderate to severe decay. They are also an excellent option for patients who need a long-term, durable restoration and would like to limit the amount of healthy tooth structure that has to be removed.

These restoration are custom designed for each case and fitted into place using the most advanced bonding systems. This allows the new restorations to protect the teeth against recurrent decay and fracture for up to 10 years.

Dr Sam obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in 2016 at the University of the Western Cape as well as the SADA (South African Dental Association) Bronze Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Prosthetics.

He has since, in 2020, completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Endodontics (UWC), which allows him knowledge and skill to perform more complicated Root Canal Treatments.

His journey started in the small town of Porterville in the Western Cape, where in just a year he managed to make a difference in lives of his patients as well as improve on his Afrikaans.

In 2018, he started working as a locum at Muller's Dental Studio and this is where he really found his passion for dentistry as the morals and values that Dr Muller put into place still remain in the practice today.

In 2019, Dr Sam was afforded the opportunity to take over the practice and continue looking after the supportive community.

At the practice, we perform all General Dentistry procedures as well Cosmetic Dentistry treatments.

Every patient is unique and Dr Sam is passionate about treating children and encouraging good Oral Hygiene practices from a young age.

He has a keen interest in Root Canal Treatment as a treatment modality to save and restore teeth.

He loves every aspect of Dentistry, particularly Smile Makeover treatments involving use of treatments such as Composite Bonding, Veneers, Crowns, Bridges or Dental Implants.

Passionate about providing his patients with the best dental treatment, Dr Sam regularly attends postgraduate dental seminars, lectures and congresses to stay up-to-date with the latest technology and research the industry has to offer.

Outside of dentistry, you'll find Dr Sam spending time with his family as well as being an avid road runner.

Removable Dentures

Full or partial dentures consist of a gum-colored base made of plastic resin, which fits over the remaining alveolar (bone) ridge that formerly held the teeth. The prosthetic teeth projecting from the base are designed to look and function just like your natural teeth. Dentures are held in place primarily by the suctioning effect of their close fit against the alveolar ridges — that's why it's so important that they are fitted properly. The upper denture also gets extra support from the large surface area of the roof of the mouth (palate), which generally makes it extremely stable.

At first, wearing dentures may require some getting used to in terms of talking and eating, as the dentures become “balanced” in the space formerly occupied by the teeth. But over time, the muscles, nerves and ligaments of the mouth learn to work in new ways, which allows these functions to occur normally. Dentures also help support the facial skeleton and the soft tissues of the lips and cheeks, which can help create a more youthful appearance.
